  3. So apart from searching female suspects, why else are female officers needed? Policing is a dangerous job. The amount of times I’ve seen two women on the beat together is laughable. I’ve seen that scenario in the video in real life plenty of times. On average, they’re not as strong or as fast as men so they’re already at a disadvantage. I wouldn’t take a police officer under 6ft seriously either. How are you gonna respect some oompah loompah panda? I do agree that they should all be in shape though. At the very least, if you’re gonna put a woman on the frontline, she should be partnered with a man. No one is calling that sexist because it’s common sense. It’s just a fact of life, most people in general are not gonna respect female officers for both social/biological reasons. But hey, when it comes to equality, let’s just throw biology out of the window.

  6. Well you’re working in an industry where you’re judged on different metrics. It would be hard to discriminate against someone who is clearly smart and good at their job in your field of work. You can’t pay the next man less if he’s statistically banging in goals compared to his counterparts. I work in finance where nepotism is rife and the biggest idiots get senior positions. I’m not mad because that’s just how politics work. I’m just acknowledging how people are going to move up others they “identify” more with. I just don’t get why people are trying to bring up “class” and other non sequiturs when people are discussing their own personal experiences with discrimination. It’s just being dismissive. “Are you sure it’s racism and not something else?”
  7. You both broke it down perfectly. That’s why I was never with the whole BAME title. It’s just a way to tick boxes and still discriminate. The amount of co-opting has made it obvious. No one has benefitted more from positive discrimination than white women and the LGBT community. To be fair, the current team I work with is a good mix and we all get along. But the bottom line is we know that we’ll have to leave for another company as we don’t fit the “profile” for any meaningful progression. @Heero Yuy is right. Get experience where you work for a few years, move to another job and do the same. That’s what I and others have done because loyalty will not benefit you at a company, especially if you’re black. Boy... the elephant in the room that we know won’t be addressed.

  9. Police are definitely only looking at class when they stop and search right. I guess those statistics about which groups are more likely to be stopped are made up.   10. Exactly. Now if we’re talking about getting your foot in the door, class and wealth plays an essential part. Having Eton, Oxford or Cambridge on your CV will push you right to the front. And we already know the barriers there are into getting into those universities/colleges. If you’re not studying at those schools on a scholarship, then your parents will more than likely have connections. I’ve worked with guys who simply had to tell the company who their dad was and they got the job. So yes, nepotism and class definitely a huge part initially. And as you said, when it comes to promotion and pay, race takes precedence over class. They even did a study on it. Who do you really think they’re gonna promote: a white working class man or a middle class black man? It really isn’t up for debate.

Are you angry at us?” ”You’re not being a team player.” ”You have an attitude problem.” You can’t be black and quiet in an all white/ non black environment. Again, they feel threatened if you’re not Buck dancing or acting a fool. Of course I crack jokes with my black colleagues but then we’re seen as being “clique-y.” Then of course there’s the usual sly racist comments. But if you bite, you’re the angry black guy and they’re the naive Culturally ignorant white Woman. What’s funny is that Asians (and other groups) will speak in their own language around you and no one pulls them up on that shit, which is rude as fuck. But it’s a problem when we meet up for lunch or talk with each other. Again, I don’t expect them to promote black people into senior roles. They might put the token one in, in order to seem progressive but if you look at most companies, their “diversity” is at a lower level. Look at most FTSE 100 companies and their directors/CEOs are all homogeneously white. Yet they want to claim “diversity” and “equal opportunities.” Thats why it comes to hiring minorities, they’ll hire on this level of hierarchy (from least threatening to most): Non-British White women. Asian women. Asian men. Black women. Black men. And usually (from experience) the black woman they’ll promote is some self hating mammy, put their to keep us negros in check. There’s levels to this but I don’t want to derrrail this thread. Maybe I’ll start a new one. You know the usual suspects will deflect from this even though every black person working in these environments know this is gospel. Like I said, there’s no point complaining, we need to build our own companies because they’re never gonna see us as equal.
  12. If so, has anyone at work or outside of work questioned why? I don’t have an issue with people who choose not to. I haven’t worn a poppy since primary school. I don’t like the way people try and coerce me into wearing it, which ironically was what winning the war was against.
  13. Respect. I’ve been in similar situations at work. You’ve just got to keep your cool and record/document all their fuckery. It’s tough being a black man in the corporate world. It’s tough for black Women too but we’re considered more of threat. The amount of passive aggressive shit we have to deal with from them is despicable. And then it’s the blatant discrimination when it comes to promotion and pay. Thst’s why outside of work I don’t associate with them. Unless you brown nose or tap dance for them like their token negro, you’re not getting that promotion. Best to work and network with other black people and start your own business. Everyone else does it, I wish more of us would take the initiative.

  17. The smartest people I know/ have known were black. Environment is a huge contributing factor. Academically, the Nigerians I went to school with were leaps and bounds above every other group. That’s why I always laughed at that Bell Curve Theory. Anyone who truly believes that is a clown.
