The Spurs Thread

Michael Dawson says Tottenham cannot afford to lose to arch-rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane. The North London sides, who have made contrasting starts to the new Premier League season, clash on 15th September. While The Gunners are unbeaten and level at the top of the table, Spurs are in 14th place having won just one of their opening five games. Dawson knows the fans will be appeased with success against Arsene Wenger's troops and says defeat is not an option. "We know what that game means to the club," he stated. "We need to get something out of it. "It has been a disappointing start and we have to pick things up quickly."
He needs the captains armband before Ledley comes back. Legend in the making.
Boss Martin Jol has revealed that he would still turn up for Tottenham's games even if the board decided to sack him this season. The Dutch tactician's future at White Hart Lane has been shrouded in doubt this season as Spurs have made a disappointing start with just four points from a possible 15 on offer and they sit 14th in the table. The North Londoners were backed to challenge for a top-four Champions League spot and the White Hart Lane board and chairman Daniel Levy are thought to be very unhappy with the way things are going. However Jol has made a startling admission that he would continue to watch Spurs even if he were no longer in employment at the club. He told the Daily Mail: "I told the chairman that if I'm not sitting in the dug-out I will be sitting in the stands as a fan. He won't get rid of me that easily." Meanwhile Jol has hit out at the latest international break as he feels it will take his players longer to reach their peak form in the Premiership due to the interruption.
Classic Jol. Its been a long, long time since we have had a manager who properly supports the club and its well being.

Certianly not your best manager you've had , But if your looking for a manager who loves the club rather then a manager who's there to improve the club and win trophies then thats daniel levys choice .
Best manager points-wise since Nicholson and Shreeves.Thats good enough for me.If you dont think Jol has improved Spurs you need to have your usergroup changed back.

Zokora really annoys me, but i feel for him at the same time. He came with such promise. An excellent world cup, the shot from range that nearly split the bar in two still rings clear (has he ever had a shot on goal on target for Spurs?.) He ran the Ivory Coast midfield and bossed the games he was involved in, even Chelsea and the filth down the road were apparently close to signing him.Things started off well, he looked good in the premiership and soon found his confidence, and making runs from deep often beating players with pace at will. He still does that to be fair, but then came the arsenal match, dancing around with Toure after the final whistle and after that his effectiveness once passed the half way line became abysmal and up until the last 4 games of the season he was utter shite.Reports suggest that Jol doesn't rate Zokora and that he was a Commoli signing that Martin never approved. Waste of £8.2m by the sounds of it.

Yaya Toure did that IMO but Zokora still had a good WC

MARCELLO LIPPI has joined the list of star bosses lining up to replace the beleaguered Martin Jol. Jol's position as Spurs boss will be untenable should they lose to bitter rivals Arsenal in Saturday's north London derby. And World Cup winner Lippi is well in contention to succeed Jol as the Tottenham board draw up their short-list. Tottenham have already approached Sevilla boss, Juande Ramos, while Fabio Capello is also in the White Hart Lane frame. Now Lippi has made it clear to Spurs chiefs he would relish the opportunity of managing in the Premier League. He has taken a year off following Italy's win in last summer's World Cup but is now ready for a fresh challenge. It is a formidable line-up of candidates and proves Spurs will only accept the cream of the crop when it comes to finding a replacement for Dutchman Jol.There is real excitement among the Tottenham hierarchy that they have been able to attract the interest of three of the very best. Lippi's World Cup success follows an illustrious career in Serie A with the likes of Juventus, Capello led Real Madrid to the La Liga title last season, while Ramos is a double UEFA Cup winner. Lippi, one of European football's most astute coaches, has cleverly kept his distance from the situation at Spurs. But he has indicated to third parties he would be willing to take charge of Tottenham with the vision of leading them into the Champions League. Five years ago, when Sir Alex Ferguson suggested he was ready to retire at Manchester United, Lippi was in the frame to take over, along with Capello and German Ottmar Hitzfeld. Earlier this year, when Jose Mourinho's future was in doubt, Lippi was not shy in volunteering his services. He said at the time: "After winning the World Cup for Italy, I still want another challenge. Being a manager of a top English club attracts me, given what I have achieved in Italian football and for the national side. "There are some people who think that can't happen because I don't speak English. "But that is not right because actually I can speak English quite well and have spent the last year improving my command of the language."
Paper rumour, but i still think it won't be looking good for Jol if we lose the NLD. If we do get any managers on this level we will be buying world class players though.Guess we have to wait and see.
