i have to agree, what the police are doing here is laughable. check this post out on the betfair forums, agree with it all:

Ok what are everyones thoughts on the Tottenham 16?One of my mates has just wrote this letter to the Sun, let me know what you think. In regards to your article about 'Tottenham Thugs' can I just make a few points:1: If you know the full version of the song in question, where does it mention anything about his RACE or his SEXUALITY?? I don't believe it mentions either of the issues you have printed.2: I wasn't at the Portsmouth game but am a season ticket holder at Tottenham and have heard the song many times...why has this one-off instance being taken so seriously and none of the times previously or even since?3: How have Hampshire Police picked out 16 people out of an away end of 2-3 thousand, if only 16 people were singing the song then nobody would have heard it would they?4: I was at Upton Park on Monday night and was continually asked "Where my foreskin was" and noises that resembled GAS coming from the home supporters.......which is a regular occurance everytime Spurs play West Ham, Chelsea and Arsenal for as long as I have been following Tottenham (ie 20+ years) - I assume this is acceptable as I don't believe anyone has had their photo in the paper for doing it....from any of the aformantioned clubs.5: If Sol Campbell isn't homosexual, like he insists he isn't, then why would the so-called homophobic chants affect him?6: Are the same homophobic chants heard at that game the same as the ones directed at Graham Le Saux, Justin Fashanu, Ashley Cole, Freddie Ljungburg, Jermain Jenas etc etc? I don't belive anyone was ever convicted for singing about any of them?7: Tottenham have Gomes, King, Lennon, Jenas, Huddlestone, Bent, Zokora, Ekotto, Gilberto......all coloured players, why would anyone chant racist abuse at Campbell with a number of coloured players in their own team? Don't you think they would have been disgusted to hear their own fans chanting racist songs?8: Wasn't it the same game where the Tottenham following gave former player Jermain Defoe a standing ovation and sang his name.......a coloured player.I feel that your story has massive flaws, Tottenham fans are not angels but are certainly no worse than any other set of fans...especially in terms of racism. We are normally on the receiving end of racist and anti-semetic chants. For as long as football has been played there has been banter, sometimes it is very near the mark and offensive but until now has been overlooked, why has this instance been made to look like it is a one-off and never happens at other grounds up and down the country?I look forward to hearing back from you and your answers to my questions. Thanks

Out of all the people to stick up for us when all this shite developed, it was Ian Wright on Talksport. He said that he understood why they felt the pain, and said Sol knew his move would cause problems, and he would have to take what came with it for the rest of his life.
The key part of your post is "for the rest of his life".Which is why at the same time the Spurs fans have to be careful... As this is proving, and for me this was always coming.

If we need to be careful, so do the Chelsea fans who sing -"Tottenham are on their way to Auschtwitz...Hitler's gonna gas em again""Ten men went to gas a Yido...."And the West Ham fans who sing -"I'd rather be a paki than a Jew....""Theres only one Adolf Hitler"etc. The double standards are at an all time high it seems.

I edited, read back...Cos thats banter. While its highly offensive, its footballing banter, a blind eye is turned. What your doing is aimed at a individual, and for a long time a blind eye too was turned, however that individual is now at the twilight of his career, and with it still being so fierce even eight years later and with him not being at that same club, something has been decided to be done by all parts of the football community, come on Rsonist your not a dummy, this is about Sol Campbell once he finishes his career. These fans once caught will be handed harsher sentences than the Newcastle dad & son who just did Mido and the dad only got a £250 fine, your ones will probably all get fines and banning orders.

And what he did, the reprecussions will be with him for the rest of his life.Sol aint a dummy either, and i quote him here, word for word -"I could never sign for Arsenal, the Tottenham fans would never forgive me."Quote from the man himself, so he knew at the time, keyphrase, never forgive me.And they wont, when we play Portsmouth in a month and a bit time, if Sol plays the abuse will be just as bad from the Park Lane, nothing will change. There was hundreds of us singing the usual Campbell nonsense when we played Portsmouth abeit -"You only came for the sailors...""Campbell loves Barrymore...""Is this the way to amirillo,Theirry Henrys biting his pillow, Sol Campbells f*ck*ng his arsehole, and Arsene Wenger sleeps with kids..."And of course the HIV/Hanging by a tree song.Campbell has been used to it for years, many other footballers had to live with worse chants being thrown at them, i dont see Jenas or Ashley Cole complaining at the abuse they get? What he did remains the most snake like, blatent spit in your face, most unforgivable act a footballer has ever commited in the Premier League. Even arsenal fans will tell you this, and you yourself know this. And to villify a few individuals who were singing it instead of the 800+, like i said, farce.

Exactly, the rest of his life... Jenas & Cole get abuse, but like I've said to you and on here before, Sol's was the worst act and to make it worst he went on to play in one of the greatest and most succesful Arsenal teams, while you lets be honest sucked. I include the success thing cos the fact the move was a success always makes it a little more harder to take.Arsenal fans dont really care about Cole (especially as they dont consider him a success there yet), plus remember you got man like anelka type fans who will sing the songs, then come game end, if they saw Cole outside the stadium, they would spud him and talk to him like its nothing. Its not as personal, the emotion Cole stirs up isnt the same.Your fans on the other hand have a lot more emotion about it and thats the worry from football hieracry so a stance is being made solely based on the player involved rather than general fan conduct... Which is why I said your fans have to be careful cos scapegoats are likely to be made.

Which brings me back to my initial point of this whole fiasco being an utter farce.Killing it for the fans to be honest. Whatever chanting goes on at grounds, is like you said banter, and imo English football for the fan, the elemant of it is based and heritaged on fan banter/singing/chanting.I cant speak for all Spurs fans out there, but if the FA seriously are concerned about Sol's wellbeing once he retires, or when he is back at the lane....well, i dont know what to say apart from lol.

I don't like getting involved in internet forum discussions because it normally makes one to come back and look at responses. I just want to look at the forum once or twice and done for the day. What I have to say is all them chants you just mentioned are wrong, you are totally right. I support Arsenal and here sh*t at derby games and think 'this is wrong' I don't believe just because Arsenal are playing Tottenham I have to be racist. We can complain about Double standards but the main thing here is Tottenham are being made an example of have to make sure these chants don't happen again. What I say to you is next time your at a game and racism happens, I don't care who it is against, take out your camera phone and record the sh*t if your neat to the Away fans and send it to THFC or FA or both even. I'm not 'having a go' at you but complaining on VIP2,at home or with your mates isn't going to do sh*t. Get other people to film it as well if it means much to you, if you film it from different angles (Your friends film it from different seats) it looks like a issue of great importance, which it is.As for this Double Standards stuff, Tottenham fans who are participating have to respect responsibility for it, I'm not going to apologize for using this example but as a 'black' man I'm probably going to be negatively stereotyped for the rest of the life (I won't let it stop me from doing what I want to do) in this country but if I commit a crime even if I'm stopped on the street because of my ethnicity and have something illegal on me, I can't bring up some double standards sh*t, I've committed a crime end of, It's the LAW. I have to accept responsibility. I do agree that everyone should be analysed the same when it comes to these things.BTW as a general statement to people who might come up this taking the fun out of football with these chants, there are other witty and funny chants with out the abuse about someone's mother, ethnicity (I have taken the point you said the chant is about judas but thats subject to debate) or sexuality (even thought I admit I'm partially homophobic, if there is such a thing, and do the occasional gun salute to Boom Bye Bye by Buju Banton). I don't want to be hearing anything about my mother or my children, if I have any, while playing football. One day somebody will go further than Cantona and launch something hard into the crow and jump in buss somebody rarsehole bad, they will soon know about who is the real faggotbwoy or 'gassed jew', 'black monkey' or whatever. Would you like it if particular player paid your boss ( just like how you paid for your entry into the game) your to be next to table telling about yuh mudda, fadda, how you are a battybwoy, you black or white this and that for the WHOLE DAY more than 90 mins?f*ck any spelling or grammer issue I can't be bothered to go back

I never argued its a farce, just that this day was always coming...Of course they are, eight years on you still sing it as fierce as the day it happened and remember Sol doesnt speak on the move ever or when he plays try to incite you, the only reason Arsenal fans even boo Bentley is cos he kept Arsenal in his mouth when it wasnt needed, he made that situation for himself, like he needed something to motivate his career while he was in Lancashire. Ashley Cole has been smart enough after the book to not really concern himself in it and already only two years later the abuse is taming.

Real boss Ramos plans Spurs Zokora raid to solve Diarra dilemmaBy Christopher DaviesZokora was delighted when he heard the news...Didier Zokora is the surprise target for ex-Tottenham manager Juande Ramos to take to Real Madrid.Ramos was appointed as successor to Bernd Schuster yesterday and sees the Ivory Coast midfielder as the player to strengthen Real's midfield. The Spanish champions need a replacement for Mahamadou Diarra who has been ruled out for the season. When asked which Spurs player he admired most from his time at White Hart Lane, Ramos replied: 'The player that impressed me most was Zokora.'Zokora has become a regular under Harry Redknapp but the Spurs manager may need to generate transfer funds to bring in new faces during the January transfer window.
