Always said this guy loves going forward, he's going to love the prem. However, i don't think this guy is the best defensivly but is solid enough hopefully. He gives us something no other person other than Bale can, natural width on the left hand side.

Tottenham defender Gareth Bale has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, the club have confirmed. The 18-year-old was sidelined with a ligament sprain after limping off during Spursâ 3-2 defeat at the hands of Birmingham at White Hart Lane in December following a heavy challenge from Fabrice Muamba.Bale had a cast on his foot removed on Monday, after which the club were advised that the Wales international should play no further part in this seasonâs campaign."Gareth's injury was reviewed today and although the surgeon was happy with the results of the X-rays he does not anticipate Gareth being able to play any further part in this season," said sporting director Damien Comolli on the clubâs official website."We are all disappointed for Gareth, but he is still very young and his long-term fitness is our priority."Baleâs plight will come as a blow to the club who originally anticipated a March return, but the addition of Jonathan Woodgate and Alan Hutton in the January transfer window has added stability at the back, something which may go some way to softening the impact of the former Southampton youngsterâs absence.

ALAN HUTTON feared the chance to test himself against the world's elite would have passed him by if he hadn't joined Spurs before the transfer window slammed shut. The defender proved Juande Ramos was right to pay Rangers £9million for his services with an outstanding Premiership debut against Man United at White Hart Lane on Saturday. And afterwards Hutton admitted the opportunity to fulfil a boyhood dream of playing in the English top flight was one he simply couldn't afford to turn down.Initial indecision on the 23-year-old's part appeared to have placed his record-breaking switch to London in jeopardy with the Scotland international twice snubbing Spurs' overtures at the turn of the year. However, the full-back revealed the real reason for the delay that saw his transfer take the best part of a month to complete was over concerns for his partner Kylie, who is due to give birth to their second child on March 11.Hutton said: "My missus is down here right now and will go back to Scotland to have the baby. We are looking for a place to stay."In my eyes, the family comes first and that is why it was a massive decision to come to London."That is one of the main reasons why there was a hold-off period from me."But the offer to play here was just too big to turn down."The move was brilliant but the timing was not ideal on the personal side."It was things behind the scenes, like the family, that made me weigh it up for so long and hold me back a wee bit."But, after this debut, I feel as if I've made the right choice."I spoke to big Lee McCulloch about playing in England. He'd done it with Wigan and assured me I would be fine."The other side to it all was what would happen if I said 'No' in January and then there was no offer in the summer."I had to ask myself, 'Will I look back and 'Should I have done that?'"When you get an opportunity like this you just have to jump at it."Despite only training with his new team-mates for two days prior to taking on Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs, this was a hugely encouraging introduction for the young Scot. With both pace and stamina and excellent upper body strength, there's no doubt Hutton has the necessary attributes to flourish in a league where athleticism is half the battle. In the first half he expertly nullified the threat of Rooney and while Ronaldo gave him a more thorough examination after the break, Hutton came through his first big test with flying colours. The burden of being the most expensive Scottish outfield player in history also didn't appear to inconvenience the defender. He said: "I did not feel any added pressure with the fee. I believe in myself and know what I can do. I just tried to play the way I have been with Rangers and Scotland. Spurs have bought me because of that and I hope I can do the same job now I am here."I think I have made the right choice. A lot of Scottish kids have dreams of doing something like this and I'm getting that opportunity."I did not really notice the quick pace of the game although, obviously, United have players like that."I felt I was quite comfortable and felt as if I took it in my stride."I had to put in a couple of tackles early on against Rooney so that was a kind of 'Welcome to the Premiership'."I had Giggs against me then Ronaldo was moved out there when Giggs went off but I felt I did well."Hutton's self-assessment was a tad modest although, if first impressions are anything to go by, he genuinely looks as if he could finally become the SPL export who wins over a sceptical English public. In recent seasons Stilian Petrov, Barry Ferguson and James McFadden have all failed to make the expected impact after leaving Scotland.Hutton said: "I've not really thought of myself as a standard-bearer for Scottish football. I want to do well here for myself first and foremost."Of course there's an issue about Scottish players and we've a few in the Premiership now. It could be good for the national team if we have another player down here doing well."Dimitar Berbatov's 21st-minute strike looked to have handed Hutton a first win bonus and Spurs a first victory against United for seven years but a Carlos Tevez equaliser three minutes into stoppage time denied the Scot and his new mates.Yet, despite the late setback, Hutton admits any doubts he may have had about moving disappeared within seconds of taking to the field. He said: "What a buzz it gave me walking out the tunnel to line up against Manchester United."I was up against some of the best players in the world in front of a full house and it just cemented the decision in my mind. I'm sure I've made the right one."United are a quality team with so many threats. They put us under pressure for the last 20 minutes but it was a sickener to lose such a late equaliser."I'll just have to deal with opposition like Ronaldo. The guy is phenomenal to play against."He has every asset and every trick as well. You have to concentrate so much and try to do your best."So just how did Hutton prepare to face the best player in world football? He said: "Kris Boyd was winding me up beforehand with texts. He kept mentioning Ronaldo but it was good to have a few messages of support."

The window has now shut on the January transfer dealings of 2008 and our new signings were quickly absorbed into the training schedules. No major changes had been envisaged during what is considered by most to be a difficult transfer window, but it had been recognised that certain positions were essential to strengthen and the Club continued to be open to opportunities as and when they arose. âJanuary is not always the time of year that we prefer to do business,â explained Chairman, Daniel Levy. âBut we are very pleased with the outcome. âIt is always our aim to come out of a window period in a stronger position than when we enter it and that is definitely the case this year,â added Daniel. âWe worked hard to strengthen the squad strategically this January and we have bought in great additions. We had key positions we needed to provide options for and everything we do is always with a long-term view. âWhen the opportunity is there to sign an England centre-back, a Brazil left-back, Scotlandâs right-back and a young Wales international, you take it. In the summer, those opportunities might not be there.â Chris Gunter was first in at the beginning of the month from Cardiff City and the 18-year-old Welsh international made his creditable debut in the FA Cup replay win at Reading before featuring against Manchester United in the same competition and the Premier League fixture away to Everton. England international Jonathan Woodgate made his first appearance in a Spurs shirt up at Everton on Wednesday following his transfer from Middlesbrough. His performance in the 0-0 draw was impressive and he has now received a call-up to Fabio Capelloâs first England squad for the friendly international against Switzerland next week. On Wednesday afternoon, Scotland international Alan Hutton completed his move from Rangers and the Spurs January quartet was completed on deadline day with the addition of the Brazilian left-back Gilberto, who is no stranger to White Hart Lane having played in the friendly international against Wales in September 2006. Commenting on the new signings, Sporting Director, Damien Comolli, said, âAlan Hutton is a player weâve been following for a long time. He was very, very impressive last season and in the first half of this. As a Frenchman, I know how well he did against France in both matches and he has really impressed in big games. Against Italy in Glasgow he was outstanding and is exactly the type of player Juande wanted and when he arrived he was the first player we discussed. Alan possesses all the ingredients of a top full-back and he fitted the bill of what Juande wanted. âWhat we rate about Chris Gunter is his competitiveness and his motivation. He takes no prisoners and is a good defender, very aware and an intelligent player. He has also been very impressive at international level and we are delighted to have him. He has taken no time to adapt and has come into the First Team reckoning almost straight away. âJonathan Woodgate doesnât need any introductions. We all know he is a top class player and has got everything you want from a centre back. He showed a great determination to come here and that was key for us. âBeing awarded 27 caps by Brazil tells its own story and Gilberto took over from Roberto Carlos, which is quite a reference. He is a player we have been following for a couple of years, but it was a question of when he became available. When he did, he said he wanted to come here and we took that opportunity.â Damien went on to point out the impact of another player who has emerged on the First Team scene. âThere is one player who is not a new signing, but it feels like having one and that player is Jamie OâHara, who has done so well and again it is a tribute to our Academy and development set-up. He has made a massive impact and he has a great attitude. âHe went on loan to Millwall and had a tough time to begin with. Clive and I had a long discussion with him and the second part of his loan spell was very positive. He came back with a great outlook and after two training sessions Juande was asking âwho is this kid? I really like himâ. That is because of his discipline, his tactical awareness and intelligent play, not to mention the quality of his left foot. He won everyone over and has proved himself to be a reliable First Team player who can operate in two or three positions. It is fantastic for the Club.â Jermain Defoe departed from the Club at the end of the window, as did Wayne Routledge, following Phil Ifil and Lee Barnard who left earlier in the month. âEveryone understands the reasons for allowing Jermain to leave. It was not something we were looking to do, but he only had 18 months left on his contract, we had to do it and it is done. âWayne had the misfortune of being injured early after joining us and had loan spells at Portsmouth and Fulham, but it is important for him to get regular first team football so his transfer to Aston Villa will hopefully see him playing more. âPhil Ifil went on loan in the Championship to Southampton and did very well, so we had several clubs interested in him and we felt it was time for him to move on and establish himself at a club and he now joins Colchester United,â continued Damien. âWe are sure he will have a very good career and the same goes for Lee Barnard. He scored on his full debut for Southend United, which is typical of Lee because he is a very good finisher and we wish Jermain, Wayne, Phil and Lee the very best for the future. Juande Ramos, Head Coach, shares the view of the Sporting Director in that his squad strength has been considerably increased over the course of the winter window. âI am confident that the signings we have made will improve the squad as a whole and that they will adapt well to the playing system we have in place here, and the proof of this will come on a matchday. We have sought to find solutions to specific areas and we believe we have found them in the players we have brought in. âChris Gunter came in at the beginning of the month and although he is very young and still has a lot to learn, so far it looks like he is evolving in an excellent fashion and I believe he can become a very good player with us. I like my full-backs to be able to play on both the right and left side, and he has had to play on the left already out of necessity. He has shown a real willingness to learn and develop his game. âI have watched Jonathan Woodgate during the time he spent in Spain with Real Madrid. For me, he was an essential addition to our defence and with his wealth of experience he will bring a solid, calming influence to the side, as he demonstrated in his first match for us against Everton. âAlan Hutton is a very powerful player with great pace who I am hopeful can bring a lot to the team. I have seen him play a number of times and have been really impressed with what I have seen. We made a great effort to bring him to the Club and were delighted when he decided it was the move he wanted to make. âGilberto offers something extra to the squad being a left-footed defender. He possesses an excellent technique, he is very strong physically and is an experienced player, while he also has the added the flexibility of being able to play in midfield as well. âI am comfortable in having three strikers because we have players here who can also operate as a second striker in the likes of Aaron Lennon, Steed Malbranque and Adel Taarabt. Jermain Defoeâs departure also gives an opportunity for some of our younger forwards to impress and stake a claim for a regular place in the First Team squad and, with the quality we have coming through the Development Squad and Academy, that is important. Jamie is an example of how productive that route is.â Hossam Ghaly, Paul Stalteri , Anthony Gardner and Ben Alnwick headed off on loan to Derby, Fulham, Everton and Leicester City respectively and Andy Barchamâs loan to Orient Leyton has been extended.
