http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...08/nhair108.xmlA hair salon owner is being sued for religious discrimination after refusing a Muslim teenager a job as a stylist because she wore a headscarf.Sarah Desrosiers said she refused 19-year-old Bushra Noah the position because it was an "absolutely basic" requirement that customers could see their stylist's hair. The 32-year-old, whose "alternative" salon in London specialises in "urban, funky punky" cuts, has already spent £1,000 fighting the case.Miss Noah wants £15,000 for injury to her feelings plus an unspecified amount for lost earnings. She maintains that her headscarf is an integral part of her religious beliefs.Miss Desrosiers, who denies any discrimination, said: "The essence of my line of work is the display of hair."To me, it's absolutely basic that people should be able to see the stylist's hair."It has nothing to do with religion. It is just unfortunate that for her covering her hair symbolises religion."She added: "I now feel like I have been branded a racist."My accountant is Muslim. I have never discriminated against Muslims. My name is being dragged through the mud and I feel victimised."This girl is suing me for more than I earn in a year. I am a small business and have only had my salon a year and a half."Miss Noah, who is an experienced stylist but has been rejected for 25 jobs, was invited to the salon for a trial day in March after sending Miss Desrosiers her CV.I think this is f*cking ridiculous....The woman is a hairdresser for f*ck's sake, how can she not have her hair on show? That's like hiring a fat personal trainer.

She's right though. How does wearing a head scarf stop you from being a good stylist?
i don't think many women would want their haircut by a stylist with a bad trim. She may have the best Doo in the world but if no one can see that, they doubt her skill and wouldn't want their hair cut by her.

What do they cut their own hair or something?

Actually thinking about it, does that mean that u have have a "funky punky" haircut to work there? If i went for a job there with a short back and sides would she not employ me? She's acting like the style police.

Nope. But they style it every mornin b4 coming to work though because they work in a hair salon and it would b stoopid 2 have bad hair if u work in a hair salon. Its like those girls that work at beauty counters in boots and debenhams. They are not allowed to come to work with no make-up. They either have to sort themselves out, or they get sent home.

It dont matter how well she can cut hair, if the salon owner dont want people wearing scarfs then its up to her, i personally think they look ridiculous and wouldnt let them anywhere near my customers if i ran a business, they are in england now, things are different and they have to adapt to our culture

the whole thing is package though isn't it. If your stylist has bad hair then it is poor reflection on her skills or judgement. If she allowed herself to have a sh*t trim or something then it doesn't exactly instill confidence in the client. Are you telling me you would allow your hair to get cut by a stylist with a wack trim? Woman are already fussy with their head piece and are very picky about who cuts their hair.
