Props to everyone sharing their appreciation and for (mostly) keepin this topic from becoming a Shawn Carter bitchfestSpecial cosign to Social's whole post and especially for putting it so succinctly ... the GOAT album in a factual manner

I'm the young city bandit, hold myself down singlehandedFor murder raps, I kick my thoughts alone, get remandedBorn alone, die alone, no crew to keep my crown or throneI'm deep by sound alone, caved inside in a thousand miles from homeI need a new nigga, for this black cloud to followCause while it's over me it's too dark to see tomorrowTrying to maintain, I flip, fill the clip to the tipPicturin my peeps, now the income make my heartbeat skipAnd I'm amped up, they locked the champ up, even my brain's in handcuffsHeaded for Indiana stabbin women like the PhantomThe crew is lampin big Willie styleCheck the chip toothed smile, plus I profile wildStash through the flock wools, burnin dollars to light my stoveWalk the blocks wit a bop, checkin Dames plus the gamespeople play, bust the problems of the world today

Props to the thread starter, absolute classic album.Got the original on CD and got the remastered on LP.Everything about this album is perfect:- Track lengths- Total Tracks- Lyrical Content- One of my all time favourite producerAlot of youngers dont get it, and can't understand why an album only has 10 tracks, but as everyone's already said above it's hard to pick a favourite tracks IT'S THAT GOOD.

This is seriously at the top of my list, from start to finish every song brings a emotion that no other album that I've listened to has ever brought, they say poverty is the best motivator and on this album you can hear the hunger in every track and in each line he delivers. Some may not comprehend Nas' approach on this album you need to be in sync to listen and take in everything he says. My favourite tracks being Life's a bitch & NY state of mind.Life's a bitch, when ever I hear the intro I just kick back and prepare myself for another intake of lyrical complexity, AZ's flow just brings that powerful listen to my struggle but relax flow. 'I woke up early on my bornday i'm 20 it's a blessing' geez just reciting that verse in my head just makes me want to kick back and say f*ck the world. At the end of the track when Olu dara is playing the trumpet it just makes me think about everything they just said, I think when a song does this it really says something about the impact of the song.I can honestly say in my opinion Nas = G.O.A.T

*Salutes* Superstition on this thread+I'm takin rappers to a new plateau, through rap slowMy rhymin is a vitamin, Hell without a capsuleThe smooth criminal on beat breaksNever put me in your box if your sh*t eats tapesNO NO NO!!! The first time I heard ^^^^ I cried. Couldn't believe it, it was like the whole verse led up to this point. NOT HAVING IT, NO!!!+

nonetheless illmatic is the goat album in a factual mannernothing comes close to it the levels of the rhymes are way higher than human levels,man has transcended the boundaries of mortality over the course of this record which is why im able to give him bly for the more shambolic aspects of his subsequent career.it still stands as an almost unbelievable achievement,which probably will not be beaten,as ive said before its the apex of human civilizationmy favourite track from illmatic changes evry so often but u can take pretty much any two lines and they will defeat pretty much anything else around before or since,there aint a mediocre line anywhere , as superstition said the levels are too high for anyone to be able to f*ck with,imo in any genre of recorded work,quite remarkable still for the young kid from qb
LMAO Social cracks me up. He's right though.

{I haven't read through all the comments, but yes Nas is a great lyricist and yes Illmatic was a great album, but what I could never understand is why 'It was written' was always overlooked? In my opinion this album was superior. Who wants a fight?}
