rimplton Posted January 28, 2008 Report Share Posted January 28, 2008 i been eating punk rock up for years and yet i have only just realised...STEVE ALBINI > EVERYONE ELSE (nearly)if you like rock and don't know about steve albini, get to know. he's produced and engineerd some real classics.surfer rosa by pixies and in utero by nirvana are very good samples of his studiowork. Social Posted January 30, 2008 Report Share Posted January 30, 2008 wud say post rock is more of an ethos than a specific sonic boundary.personally wud refer to alternative artists after the grunge era who apply abstraction in instrumentation,song structure,lyrics/pretension (art rock etc) as being post rock.like to stadium rock wat backpacking is to mainstream rap.wud say post punk applies a similar perversion of a template set by punk and wud refer to new wave bands such as magazine also hardcore acts such as black flag or dead kennedys(unfortunate forefathers of emotional hardcore,wat we know as emo) as being post punk.wud also say post punk is more politically based or at least referential of the indirect or direct legacy of the intellectual aspects of punk rock of 77-79,whereas post rock is more concerned with rock as modern art?of course theres a point were soft mathcore stops being post punk and becomes post rock,but its all under the alternative bracket.im making this up but i will presume i am rightshellac probly falls under both these categorys and the broader umbrella of alternative rock though i cant say im a fan from wat ive heard.but albini has produced and engineered some classic albums for sure Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
