Benicio del Toney Posted February 5, 2008 Report Share Posted February 5, 2008 A two-year-old British girl on holiday in Cyprus with her family was seriously injured after a barman accidentally put cleaning fluid in her orange juice.Annabel Rhodes was taken to hospital from the bar at the Curium Palace hotel in the resort of Limassol after she swallowed the fluid.The youngster is in a critical but stable condition and breathing through a respirator at the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.Her father, Mark Rhodes, 55, and her mother, who has not been named, are by her bedside.Police said he ordered a drink of diluted orange juice from a 43-year-old barman at the hotel but instead of water the drink was diluted with cleaning fluid.A spokesman for the family, speaking from the hospital, said: "This is a very emotional time for them and an intensely personal matter."They would like their privacy respected."A spokesman for Limassol police said: "The police are investigating this case."The little girl is in the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia. She is serious. Nobody has been arrested."Her father asked the 43-year-old man to put water in a glass of orange juice at 6.45pm on Saturday. But instead he put something else, some cleaning fluid."
