Manchester United fans urged to boycott season tickets over Glazers

Manchester United supporters are being urged to demonstrate their opposition to the ownership of the club by the Glazer family by effectively going on strike, via a mass boycott of season tickets.

With the Glazers insisting they have no intention of relinquishing their power to the Red Knights consortium or any other potential buyers, the Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association (Imusa) has written to its members asking them not to renew their season tickets this summer, in a collective show of mutiny.

"There are many who have gone down this route already and many more who plan to do the same," the organisation said in a statement published on their website. "We all know that hundreds of millions are going out of the club in interest payments ... We can stop them doing this but only if we starve them of cash."

The idea is that the Glazers' cash flow will be badly affected if season-ticket holders choose instead to stay away until there is a takeover or to buy tickets on a match-by-match basis.

United have around 55,000 season-ticket holders and one recent poll showed that 59% of them would consider giving them up, even though the club have frozen prices for the first time since the Glazers took over in 2005. Over that time the prices have gone up by an average 48%.

Imusa, the club's oldest supporters' group, is also encouraging fans to "buy as little as possible in the ground". Season-ticket holders who decide to renew are asked to leave it "as late as possible" before the 13 June deadline.

Although there is a self-defeating aspect to the campaign, namely costing the club money, the anti-Glazer campaigners believe it is a price worth paying if it results in the Americans deciding they should, after all, listen seriously to potential buyers such as the Red Knights, who are led by the former United director Jim O'Neill.

Keith Harris, the former Football League chairman, is involved with the Red Knights and has said in the past that, if they were successful, they would guarantee any season-ticket holders who have boycotted the club would get their seat back at a lower price.

United say they are confident all their season tickets will be sold by the start of next season but Imusa says it is a "myth" to claim there is a waiting list at Old Trafford these days. "Most games don't sell out and tickets are readily available," the supporters' group added.

hopefully we'll hear the sounds of pennies dropping soon.

just to say i've been pretty vocal in my lack of confidence in MUST (the protest group that hold their annual dinners at OT)

but IMUSA unlike MUST don't completly disregard FC United and see boycotting as an option

guess which one the Glazers would rather you join

those who tried boycotting are still doing so,

Its the others who need to make a stand now

And i beg ppl dnt get fooled by the PR hype, there isn't a mile long waiting list for tickets, OT rarely completly sells out these days, if half of the 50,000 season ticket holders dnt renew it would be visable as most wont be replaced, apart from the top 4 games an city, where people will buy 1 of tickets,

A boycot would work, it just will never happen

My boy who has had his season ticket for a good couple of seasons is boycotting next season,

it seems quite a few ppl are doing this as well.

There will alwasy be those who get season tickets for the business since though, so don't know how well it can truly work.

atmospheres piss poor now, been so fir years, and will get worse for years to come,

fans have been boycottin since the 90's when i wasnt even old enuf/smart enough to see the bigger picture, as ive said before a couple years without success is what the club needs and will be a little sacrifice for the long term gain, when people start to realise that and stop bitching about 'ohh will i get my ST back afterwards' the club will be in a better place.

cluthing at strraws thow coz even reading bullshit like redcafe, shows me that even the guyd who get the bigger picture apparently arent brave/smart enougj to take the decision to ditch the ST, coz its too big of a fashion/staus symbol.

Thats why the glazers will/have won, they know it now, they knew it 2005 the price increases the acs and all the other f*ckery is detested, but ultimately nothin real will be done bout any of it, thats why waving them yellow and green stuff makes em all feel better bout themselves

  • 3 weeks later...

Transition period here we come,

without doom mongering too much i can see us going a very long time without winning any troiphies,

our present squad isnt terrible but isnt good enough to mount a serious challenge if those around us strengthen, (and Chelsea will)

SAF has already said he expects Spurs and City to make even more of a challenge next season.

even i thought with that Bond thing that was issued in January we'd have money to spend this summer at least but i was wrong,

ive said it before the way the Glazers have run the club is very scarily similar to the way they ran Tampa Bay Buccaneers, intial success followed by consitant failiure.

the Glazer,s are amazing businessmen coz their pockets are overflowing, and the club is making more money than ever before ironicly but horrible human beings. and all the doom mongering that was expressed in 2005 is coming true.

i'm glad of the choice i made then as to Campaign and protest with the very same people who shook their heads at us when we marched up Sir Mat Busby way and told us we wernt supporting the team, told us we had our own agenda, would make me physically sick.

I hope the lets wait and see brigade who are now in uproar feel proud that they let these f*ck*ng gimps into their house to Rape a loved member of the family but didnt object due to the promise that they'd be blessed with beuatiful babies, but as soon as the babies were born (i.e 3 league tittles and a CL) we then find out the new borns have aids as well as the loved family member.

those wearing Green and gold in OT next season will be an embaresment but to be honest they wont be much more of an embaressment than those wearing it this season.

However MUST and the stall owners have made quite a packet from the campign so alls not lost.

we've taken great pleasure in watching Livepool slip down the league due in part to their own dispicable pieces of sh*t they have in charge there, but we have to realise that that is a road we might be taking soon enough.

Arsenal's debt will be wiped out within 3 years if not sooner in my oppinion and will become a transfer market super power, if they want, city are super rich as are Chelsea, Spurs are on the up turn

If Rooney picks up a serious injury in the world cup or early next season we could be joining our Scouse friends on Channel 5, its pathetic that we rely so heavily on Scholes Giggs VDS and rooney when 3 of them are in their last year or two of playing.

I still live in hope that we will make some signings, but if we dont before the start of the world cup i seriously doubt we will.

Apologetic disclaimer

I've had abit to drink and unwisely decided to have a read of the latest idiocy on Redcafe, and decided to release on here.

Also LOL at certain guys on there saying Gill should be strung up for claiming we have money to spend, when no one recites those popular lyrics more than Fergie, i expect Gill to be a arsehole but since about 2002 i've been increasingly suprised and dissapointed by the lengths Mr Ferguson will go to sully his legacy and time art the club.

success without Honour and intergrity means nothing.

you guys are all sleeping on our squad imo

i think we are 1 player off from having a side that can challenge

(no bane on what im about to do)

keepers are good not a VDS fan but he can do a job for us again this season

defence is more then solid

second best left back in the world... o'shea is a solid back up and fabio is coming through

two of the best center backs and good back ups in evans and brown also with smalling coming in and o'shea can play there i have no worrries

right back is one of our problem positions it seems he has a new 1st choice every season hopefully rafael can push on, brown has been our best right back in recent seasons and o'shea was alright 2 seaons ago as well as start of last season...wanna see as little as neville as possible tbh

Our strikers are not a problem even though some misguided people seem to think it is. Rooney-Berbatov was the most prolific strike force in the league last term and i know most people dont rate berbatov but his partnership with rooney is good and he gets more then enough goals for a second striker.... been reading up a lot on hernandez and this guy is going to be a star maybe not at united because lets face it our fans our sh*t and the media hate us so prob wont give him a chance just like forlan then we have owen and macheda in reserve its as good as the rest of the top 8 if not better

Where i think we will make our signing and where we need to is in midfield DEPENDING on the formation fergie is going to play if we go 442 he will buy another winger to support nani and valencia who will start the season first choice with Park as back up and giggs unfortunately for the bigger games

however he is more then likey to stick with 451/433 and will look to sign a central midfielder imo a defensive one (been linked with cambiasso) fletcher is the only player who will start the season as first choice if Carrick can regain his confidence then he can/will join or take fletchers place....we have hargreeves back and scholes is still getting his c*ck shined.....anderson is probably history hope not though guys class

so our squad aint that bad dont need a re haul 1 player in the right position(center mid) will do it..... plus fergies tactics are sh*t he only knows how to beat arsenal

/

on glaziers they are business men they wont let the club go to sh*t because they are in it for a profit we could do a lot worse then them

Guest M12 Part 2

i slyly agree with CR9 as well. Uniteds 1st 11 is top 4 even without rooney.

The only pressing areas are a central midfielder who can score goals or slot passes and maybe another striker

apart from that everything is fine. best defence in the league. Nani,Valencia, Fletcher would walk into most teams in the league.

Not to mention most teams set out their stall to defend against united and this is where we come undone. Sometimes we havent got that bit of genius to unlock them. If these teams start to believe they can actually play against united they will get destroyed
