"We've always done well in terms of getting players at the end of season, instead of waiting all summer. In Kagawa's case, there was a fair bit of negotiating and that kept going for weeks. As for Powell, we knew Dario Gradi [Crewe Alexandra director of football] would help us do the deal quickly."

Sir Alex discussed Powell's best position with Gradi, having seen him operate mainly as a deep-lying forward for Crewe. "I asked Dario if Nick could be a central midfielder. Dario thinks that's his position and Nick does too so we're all in accord. We hope he'll be a central midfield player and that's where we'll develop."

As for Kagawa's role, the boss said: "He'll play further forward [than Powell]. We shouldn't be looking at one player changing the way we play but he could make a difference. He can give us that extra in the final third of the field. If his goalscoring record continues he could be a very good player for us."

Kagawa was Borussia Dortmund's second highest scorer last season, and after acclimatising himself to European football with two successful campaigns in Germany, the Japanese international is poised to pick up the English game very quickly.

SAF on Kagawa: "Once he's adapted and gets to know some football phrases our players will use, he'll be used to that."

SAF on Kagawa: "He can start the first league game quite easily. I've got no problem with that."

SAF on Powell: "I think in Nick's case, he's got a bit of physical development to do, just as we would expect of an 18 year-old."

Nick Powell: 'This is a whole different world. The players have been fantastic, very nice & welcoming.'

Shinji Kagawa: 'It's a great honour to be here. The language is important & I'm really motivated to learn English.'

Shinji Kagawa: "Everything about Manchester United is huge & it's a huge honor to be here."

SAF also said of Darren Fletcher 'He hasn't started training with us, he's got challenges but we're happy to be patient with him...'

SAF on Fletcher '...If it doesn't work he knows he's got a position at the club.'

Shinji Kagawa: "I want to work hard everyday in order to improve. This is the biggest challenge so far in my career & I look forward to it."

Berbatov will be snapped up by a club who panic after losing or who look unconvincing after the first couple games of the season,

home or abroad.

Teams know that he wants out and that United want to sell, so its surely just a matter of time.

'The truth is, I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone, if I am not playing,' he wrote on his Facebook page. 'And I want to play, I want to help.

'But for unknown reasons its not going to happen, or my chances will be limited, so it's better for everyone if we say goodbye.

'If not, I am professional and I will keep doing everything I can, to help my team and my teammates, whenever I have opportunity to do so.'

'Because I am tired of speculation,i am telling you this. I read the papers and I see they say 10 million pounds is my price,' he added.

'I go and talk with Sir Alex, and he says to me 5 million...So who is telling the truth, what do you think??'
