and another one.... 8-)

Manchester United have been angered by Danny Welbeck’s wage demands, so talks over a long-term contract are now in deadlock.

Welbeck, 21, has emerged as an important member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans, scoring eight goals for the Barclays Premier League champions this season.

United are keen to reward the England striker, who earns £15,000 per week, with a new deal. Sportsmail exclusively revealed last year how Welbeck had begun negotiating with the club over a treble-your-money contract worth £45,000-£50,000 a week.

But the player and his advisers are now asking for £60,000 a week, which has left United officials astonished.

United want to put Welbeck on a similar wage package to the club’s other young talents. Defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling both earn £50,000 per week, while Tom Cleverley is on £40,000 per week.

United feel Welbeck’s £60,000-a-week demands are unrealistic as he has not proved himself on a consistent basis yet.

However, it is thought the player’s camp believe he could command even more if the young forward continues his good form to enjoy a successful climax to the domestic season and then makes an impact for England at Euro 2012.

In contrast, United feel Welbeck is being ill-advised and, as a result, contract talks have hit an impasse.

Welbeck will enter the final 12 months of his current deal in the summer.

This pay dispute is not the first time Welbeck’s demands have caused problems.

In the light of the contract snag at United, Sportsmail has learned that Sunderland nearly pulled the plug on their deal to take Welbeck on loan at the start of last season, due to his camp’s negotiating tactics.

In addition to his £15,000-per-week salary, Welbeck also asked for a number of separate bonuses to be paid, which left Sunderland officials furious.

And chairman Niall Quinn came close to turning his back on the loan agreement before a compromise was finally reached.

At a club where Rooney is on 200+, berba is on 100+, Hernandez is on 70+. 40 is a bit of a par considering he's ahead of 3 of the players on that list in the pecking order. Should jur wait till summer tbh. 40ish will always be on the table. And he has the chance to bang more goals and prove he's worth more in the meantime.
