U think a radio station or an organisation will be paying 6/7 quid to play your ish?... Never.
I thought they payed a blanket license to the prs and then the prs pay youI'm not sure how much you'd get for kiss but my bredrin got around £40 for his track played on radio 1 a couple timesYou'd be very surprised how much these guys make, my brother in law is youngstarr's (pulse x, stand up tall) brother, and when he told me how much he made from pulse x i nearly cried..
pulse x shifted unitsat 1 stage when it was out on test press it was goin 4 £10 eachits alotwhen records were moving there was p to b madei swear wiley has sold a minimum 500 records for every tune he has put outnow do the mathsshops selling records for £6-8wiley probley gettin £3-4 per record soldhe has had over 20 records on white labeltimes that by 500 minimum records pressedits alot
lol @ do the maths, you basically said he made £40,000, over how many years?
Add that (which is a VERY conservative guess at how much he's made from white labels) to his money from bookings, tours, record deals, official record sales, radio plays etc. etc. etc. He'll be doing alright for himself.

If you're a UK based artist, the money's in songwriting and touring/PA's, really.
That's the case everywhere, always has been. Only thing thats changed is artists arent making money from the albums like they used to so are forced to do touring to make up the losses
Moreso the case in this country was what I was tryna imply...
Thats cool. Also whoever said Kiss would pay the same amount as Radio 1 was chatting some serious sh*t. How can a London (minus DAB) only station pay more than National radio? Some producer told me the prices people get back in the day but I forgotten. He got like 20k for a remix of a The Streets song though. From that I thought shiiiit

I'm not saying he's poor, I'm just saying that it was dumb to quote his record sales a measure of his success especially when using that particular example it only adds up to £40,000..

OK in general...how much of the £11.99 from the album does an artist get?
It depends.Bare misinformative information flying around in here.Royalties are broken down into categories when a record or single is sold:1. Writer2. Composer3. Performer4. ProducerMoretime with manufactured crap, they do none of this, and just sing lyrics which have been given to them, on a track which has been provided for them, with mastering and sound engineering by someone else.By the time most artists get their cut of the (for arguments sake) £10, its miniscule. Absolutely f*ck*ng miniscule.Only certain tracks which get HUGE airplay, and are popular for months - and which have huge crossover appeal, is the artist looking to get anywhere near 500,000 - 750,000, not the million people are making out. This is mainstream success, not underground funds as well.Advances from record labels to make albums are usually where people try to front like they've made money, when in reality that should be going to words developing their albums/tracks. If you are an artist who can write your own material and perform it, you've covered 1/2 & 3. Producing is a whole different ballgame which also yields a hell of a lot of the money if you are in demand, but covering 1/2/3 will hugely increase the amount of royalties you will make. Just performing will net you next to nothing. For a very rough comparison and contrast, selling 100,000 copies of a single that you just sing on, and have not contributed to (or even co-written/composed etc.) will net you far less than selling 60,000 that you have actively composed, written, and performed. Its long and filled with if's, and's and but's, but in general, the majority of artists are not making anywhere near the amount of money in the areas people think they do.

He hasn't earned that much. Plus, tons of mix cds get recorded. He probably made swag money tbh. Carl Cox and djs like him can demand over a G for a rave.
