Why have we failed to produce defenders who like to defend?

Wenger has never been good with defences, especially CBs.The only truly great defence in the Wenger era was the one he inherited from Graham. Adams and Keown and the rest were already here, Cole was already coming through the ranks, Campbell and Gallas pretty much fell into his lap. He did great with Clichy, Sagna and Toure but he definitely doesn't have the knack of finding defenders with potential in the way he does with more attack-minded guys. And he's notoriously hesitant to buy/sign anyone who's not at least competent technically, and quality defenders who're capable on the ball are rare, highly-courted and usually prohibitively expensive.Wonder how many potentially amazing "hoof it out" old-school physical centre-halves got rejected from the youth ranks over the years, coz they couldn't pick crossfield pass with their weaker foot or do a Maradona 7 :D

Co sign, it seems the primary duty of defenders has changed. People always cuss defenders like Carragher/Terry for their lack of confidence on the ball but their primary duty is to defend and they do it very well.

On 20 March 2008, Wheater was called up to the England squad by boss Fabio Capello.[3] He was advised by Middlesbrough team mates not to take his autograph book if he made the final cut, [4] however he was not included in the Capello's final 23. George Boateng revealed that Wheater regularly comes into the Boro changing rooms with merchandise to sign for family and friends. [5]
LMAO.
Whats so funny about that?

I asked Carlton Cole to get his team mates to sign a poster for a West Ham supporter I know & the lazy f*ck only put his own dry autograph on it. He said if it was a T-shirt he could of done it cause it's easier to carry around.KMTLike anyone wants his signiture.
