I was considering one of these macbooks/mackbook pros. But the only thing that I would be buying it for would be the image. Spending twice as much on a comp because it is prettier is non-sensical so I have kind of abandoned that idea. Also thinking about it there are a few pieces of software as part of my uni work that need to run of windows. Either way I'll have to install XP.

@ DurrtyThe software I personally have used and found equivalents for:1. Adobe Premier for video editing on PCEquivalent: Final Cut Studio 2 Pro 6It is far superior to what I was using on windows. Compatibility is with virtually all formats, and HD content is much easier to manipulate. Camera angles almost unlimited are accounted for, and coz its on the lappy, I can transport it wherever I want and just hook up firewire/usb2 to cameras/handycams.2. Goldwave for basic audio editing on PCEquivalent: Audacity.Just as good, no disadvantages or advantages over PC version. It does the job no qualms.3. MSN on PCAdium. More powerful, handles more clients, more aesthetically pleasing user interface. Wins over msn imo.MAC OSX has native handling capabilities built in for PDF's, txt files, RAR's (stuffit), etc. So in that sense it's much more 'simple'. Everything is plug and play. You plug something in and it works. No driver installation CD's etc. Virus software isn't needed as virus's are almost unheard of.You can run Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash Professional all on MAC as they have equivalent versions, so its not really an issue.Basically, the way I equate it:MAC - Design simplicity, clever marketing, and a good, stable, powerful machine, with a strong Creative/Design focused audience = dedicated fans.PC - Worldwide compatibility, overclocking/tweaking potential, customization, best of all programs and widest variety = dedicated fans. It's what you use it for. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but for the meantime, MacBook Pro serves my work and related interests much more than PC, while PC serves my neeky interests and comp building/RAID obsessions better.

lol all the arguments are always the samei gt no need for a mac now coz all the reasons ppl switch dnt happen to me, i prefer customisation and prefer to use the software i sue now, not an equivalent if it cant run on itand the UI jus f*cks about with me.ppl always goin on about windows get viruses.. this computer has not had one virus since i built it in 2005crash all the time.... only time it crashed is when i forgot to plug in my CPU fan n gt the BSOD from over heatingmalware and spyware i USED to get, but now i got the right sh*t in place i aint had a single one since 2006ppl that get all this sh*t all the time prob need 2 get macs coz windows aint for them, IMO windows is like the PS3 n windows is a slightly more powerful Wii, also i done said from day the whole industry standard sh*t ppl drop as a reason to get them is dumb most dnt understand that the industry relis more on the hardware side of things, desk, I/O's, patches and routers than the OS itself.. n if u aint in the industry.. why do you need industry standard? ppl say pro tools only runs on mac... but it doesnt its mac n windows certified.certain heads need 2 come off this its better thingcoz either windows is 2 tough for u and u need something more simplisticor you jus bought it for the image, which isnt a very good one tbh

Lol, it's joke innit. Macs are nothing short of a waste of money if you actually know and care about the internals of personal computingAre iPods the best at what they do, or are they just the most popular? It's the same with the MacBook. My Dell Vostro is more powerful than a MacBook Pro, and I got it for 1/3 of the price.

Yea you don't NEED 4gb, but I'm sure it makes it more efficient. With most normal programs around at the moment however, they're created to be used by an optimum of 2gb...and most don't even use that!! Check your system monitor during use for the clear statistics.

XP's memory management aint the best.. BUT.. I'ma leave it at that for now... As it works and gets the job done.
