Lenny Posted November 27, 2009 Report Share Posted November 27, 2009 So after all the longness I bought a tool kit and took it apart about an hour ago, where I put the sim card tray in backwards, got stuck and I pulled it out it has bent the sim pins inside the iphone all over the place. I can't fix this only Apple can.The good thing about this is that when you restore your iPhone you have to activate it with a sim in to get onto the home screen otherwise you can only make emergency calls, BUT because the pins are bent inside you can't put a sim in. This means they can't get the serial number out of the phone.I have the NEW box from my Dad's latest iPhone that he has had for about 3 months (warranty still intact) that has the serial for the new phone on, I'm going to go in and try and blag it and get it done on the warranty as they can't check without a sim.Does this seem mad to anyone or possible?Worth a try mate tbh Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just by plugging it in and either viewing a string in Device manager or USB View if you have windows there are other ways on Mac from the end user side of things. When you take it to Apple they will run a diagnostic software with it plugged into their equipment which will also show this, among other information. Also just as a final f*ck up for your hussle, even on your SIM card holder there's a serial number there that goes with your phone. SO BOY. Good luck however. As when I went Regent Street this week they tried to not replace my handset but one quick swift fone call and that talk changed. So it's worth a try. If not and you still have an old base band on the phone then you can create an IPSW and include CYDIA, SSH, and a few other bits onto the actual FIRMWARE so even if you do a restore via the iPhone then you will always have cydia available and whatever else you added. But to be fair the quickest way and fix is BLACKRA1N.COMThen to unlock use blacksn0w, but once you have it blackra1ned then the next procedures are common sense really. As long as the PC can pick up the phone and it's not in recovery mode then I think the software will work.Can't remember the name now but if you still need it then fire me a PM and I'll check one of my clients laptops. M.Dot Posted December 3, 2009 Report Share Posted December 3, 2009 I downloaded an .ipa file recently, wasn't sure what to do with it so I put it into the downloads folder and then installed it using the Appulous app itself. There must be an easier way to install that particular file type, but I looked around at the time and didn't find much, does anyone know how?
