Sinister Posted May 3, 2010 Report Share Posted May 3, 2010 anyone know much about 2003 a4 1.8t .......looks over to ask Eskay Jones any known regular problems.... and i went to go see a civic sport the other day.... i liked it but somthing about the inside....just didnt grab me..then i seen this across the way from it........... The 1.8T engine is solid in all the VW/AUDI car ranges. Try find an A4 1.8T with the sport spec as they are better looking and more highly specced. Things to look out for: - Make sure during it's 50,000 service it has had it's cambelt changed, it's had the water pump changed from the standard plastic impeller to the metal one. - No black or grey smoke when it starts up - The turbo is spooling up at about just over the 3k-3.5k rev range - Check the oil mixture is clean - Check the coolant is RED and does not have any gunk or is cloudy and frothy = head gasket gaaaaaaaaaaaaaarn - Turn the heaters on max and check they go from hot to cold - Check if it has A/C or climate control, if the latter - check the fans aren't always running hot. The 1.8T engines are solid if maintained well. appreciate all that... im gona try find one kinda close to go look at and take a test drive. u got any idea what the milage like on it? i used to drive a a3 1.8t and was so so..but being a bigger car, im thinking less, but then being a newer car...could be more.. ? Believe it or not A4's/Boras are cheaper than the equivalent golf/a3s as they're not hot hatchs, which are more popular and have higher insurance premiums, but again depends on the spec of it, the higher you go the more expensive. I left it for a while and we all know how quick last year went. I dont use it so i wasnt really in any rush. It needed an mot and service so i got it done and now it really is good to go. Not lowering the price its worth more than that plus the mot, service, tax, brand new exhaust and tyres only couple of months old.
