TF S4DK Posted July 8, 2015 Report Share Posted July 8, 2015 Summer Budget 2015: New road tax and MOT changes for drivers GEORGE Osborne has announced a radical reform to the way British drivers are taxed as part of his emergency Summer Budget today. From 2017 a new vehicle excise duty (VED) will come into effect that will see most drivers paying a new flat rate charge of £140 a year. However, owners buying a new car priced over £40,000 will have to pay an additional £310 on top of the standard rate. There will be no change to the way people pay tax on their current cars. Money raised from the tax is to be invested into road building, said the Chancellor in the first all-Tory Budget in almost 20 years. At the same time, Mr Osborne announced that new cars will not need an MOT until they are four years, a year longer than the current three years. It was also confirmed that fuel duty is to remain frozen this year. However, critics said car cover for a two-car family would increase by an average £35 from November, after the Chancellor increased the Insurance Premium Tax to 9.5 per cent. Kevin Pratt, insurance expert at MoneySupermarket.com, said: “For drivers and households across the country, it is important to note that the taxation you pay on home and car insurance premiums will rocket by almost 60 per cent from November, adding £35 to insurance bills for the average two car family. “While we have all been benefitting from declining costs for car and home insurance premiums over the last few years, this tax increase may now sadly negate those benefits." We're looking at something to caddy the kids around in a couple of years. Nothing on the Evoque as it's orders on a new model launching Oct/Nov. All the current Evoque are gone/being bombed out, but they ex-demo so loads of kit on (good) but might be colours like phoenix orange (not so good)...
