'xda developers' will be the place you'd definitely find custom roms, though you might find more user friendly guides elsewhere

with my previous android phones the whole process (other than the download) took place on the phone so I don't think the fact that you have a Mac matters

oh yeah what am i talking about i just flashed my s3 this morning directly on the phone

root the phone

get clockworkmod

put the rom on the device

boot into recovery mode (hold volume up, power and home until cwm comes up)

wipe the device (you may not need to if your coming from stock, when i flashed my note 10.1 i just flashed without wiping and kept all my data, but that was tethered)

navigate within cwm and install from zip or whatever

reboot within cwd

Its recommended to do a factory wipe/delete cache partition before and after installing custom rom. On a few occasions it has thrown up a processor error which was rectified by doing a factory reset.

Remember Samsung put a rom flash counter for anyone whos thinking of preserving their warranty (which tells them how many times you've installed a custom rom) however this can be easily reset by getting triangle away.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have you guys seen the Kobo Arc.

Seems pretty good. Screen is apparently full HD, normal android operating system and light as f*ck.

Might be better than the Kindle fire given the standard android platform on it. Also apparently it is a bit of a beast as well in terms of power and specs.
