Why?! Because their parents hail from there? Not one of those 3 players were born in those countries, were they? It's nonsense for people to assert that someone should represent a place they don't want to.
The choice shouldn't even be there for anyone. Whatever country dominates your DNA is the country you should represent. I'd be much prouder representing the country of my heritage than the country I was born in.Some people saying he chose the better country. Why should that matter really, its not domestic football.

Really enjoyable game, nice to see a friendly being played with an edge, two quality finishes and a real test for England. The welcome the Ghana fans gave Danny Welbeck :D From a cynical point of view he should've chosen Ghana really - at best he's going to be like the 7th choice forward for England in the next couple of years, whereas only Gyan would be clearly ahead of him for Ghana. Besides, his call-up was a really cynical act by England in the 1st place - I doubt they would've considered him had Ghana not shown serious interest in him.@Turkish you do know you get footballers with dual nationalities due to parentage

What about people who have parents born here but have a foreign heritage? Then what? That is you personally, hence the choice being there for people to make, not for others to chose for them. Not everyone feels like that. How do you even know Welbeck has been to Ghana in his life, or if his parents fed him Ghanaian food and taught him about their culture, whether he knows who the President is or the bloody currency.Even if England called up Welbeck for cynical reasons, Welbeck can still turn them down.

As Gyan scored i jumped in the air and said 'take that take that' , the spirit of Kwame Nkrumah evoked inside me and i ran down to my local pub and said 'Your having a bubble mate', take that colonial masters, take that.

I was born here, as was my mum. If my son was to be a footballer he will hopefully choose to play for Turkey. The country your born in is not in your blood.Like you said not everyone feels like that.

Also on the subject of Wellbeck a wise man once said 'Just cause you put a cat in an oven doesn't make it a biscuit', Welbeck while may have been born in England is still just as much Ghanaian as he is English, i was born iin England but i'm still very connected to my Nigerian heritage. I'm infused in it daily, from the cooking to the parties, to the films, to my relatives theres no hiding from it, especially growing up in a place like London where people create a culture within a culture, i've never had pie and mash, i've never been into a pub and had a drink and i rarely eat fish and chips. But i do eat jollof rice and drink supermalt every Christmas, birthday, christening, i do watch Nollywood films when i can, i do sometimes talk to my friends in Yoruba, and i'm someone who has only been to the country of my mother a couple times, yet i am still very much apart of Nigerian culture. The funny thing is most of the people on my facebook and bb supported Ghana, all of them were born in England, yet many of them are Nigerian, Ivorian, Congolese and even Jamaican yet they chose to support Ghana, what does that tell you?

The one thing they need to do is stop making it a handicap to play for non European teams. Things like aff nations cup falling halfway through the season need to be stopped. /The side that will never change is money though. England international Welbeck is more marketable both for products and in contract negotiations than Ghana international Welbeck. It's sad to say but playing for a team that isn't "popular" like a Spain, England or brazil reduces your earning potential as a baller. Somebody needs to break the mould and make it "cool"

And if you asked if any of them would give up their British passport...? @MOGiroI think it is pretty much seen as being cool to go against supporting England, when it comes to things like sport. /The identity argument is obviously extremely complicated, trying to decipher why each person picks to play for one country over another is a massive puzzle, but it's why the choice is there and no country forces a player to play for them if they can go and play somewhere else.

Yep i hear you, the funny thing is players like Wellbeck regret the decision to play for England when they fail to break into the team, i remember John Fashanu telling Ameobi or Cartlton Cole to play for Nigeria instead of England, of course they didn't chose to listen and look at them now, not saying any of them would even make it into the Nigeria squad but they have a better chance. It pisses me off more because Wellbeck has already formed a good partnership with Gyan during his time at Sunderland, so it would of heolped if he chose to play for Ghana and continue that partnership, out of all the African countries Ghana also have the best collective of players imo, a team consisting of Boateng, Asamoah, Essien, Annan, Wellbeck, Gyan, Ayew, would of been very adept/
