This discussion is draining, both sides are so entrenched in their beliefs that the frustration of having someone with completely opposite views spills over to the point that the over riding characteristic of the debate is arrogance.

Morals aren't exclusive to theists so I don't see why they tend to try take the moral high ground. At the same time I don't know why atheists who exclusively fall back on science insist on picking apart religion for it's lack of logic, it's like the irony of their whole belief in logic being derived from a random bang is lost on them.

None of us definitely know.

Our dying Universe, our dying sun, the way species change to adapt to their surroundings, the inevitability of a multi-verse extending into the 10th dimension, the general unlivability of certain places on earth, our imperfections as beings, countless other examples

while at the same time, the bible, completed around 2000 yrs ago, with just 60 books, written over a period of 1400 years , by many men and women who were never formally educated in writing, most of whom never met each other, have been able to accurately predict many aspects of our past present and future so seamlessly.

like what?

concrete examples of stuff that has been predicted in the bible

not bullshit like "and there will come a time when man lieth with man"

other than that, 1400 years, who the f*ck made the decision on who made it into the bible?

was there like a bible publishing committee?

if these made it, does that means there are other ones who may have seen things differently and and didnt make the cut?

did they all know Jesus and that?

its prob cos im about to konk out any moment, but, how can we be sure whats written is exactly what they said? is there like an authentic original book for each of them? did they just talk and pass it on to others? if so, then there'd be a huge chance of it catchin Chinese Whispers syndrome

ill try and make more sense 2moro

err you can't

it's obviously been adapted throughout history, mistranslated, edited etc

wasnt directed at you, the other side

well take daniel 7 for example, an accurate predicton of the fall of the babylonian empire, the rise of the medo-persian empire, the fall of that empire, and the sudden, swift rise of the Greek empire, each empire described long beforehand with the eventual characteristic the empire took such as in describing the greek empire : "Another beast, like a leopard: . This one is especially swift (with four wings), and clever (having four heads),

The leopard represents the Greek Empire. Alexander the Great quickly conquered the civilized world by age 28. "Nothing in the history of the world, was equal to the conquests of Alexander, who ran through all the countries from Illycrium and the Adriatic Sea to the Indian Ocean and the River Ganges; and in twelve years subdued part of Europe, and all Asia."

After his death his empire was divided into four parts (four heads). Specifically, the four heads were Casander, Lysimachus, Seleucus, and Ptolemy, who inherited Alexander’s domain after his death.

to the description of the roman empire and its dominance, to the fall of it, the rise of two other superpowers of that day...(described as being inherited from the greco-roman empire) i.e. the european powers, and the Catholic church, ruling for about 1000yrs, into our present day.

its a large complex chapter, but you can go research it and fault it as you wish with your own hard evidence.

a predicted massive war in the middle east where soilders will pass though passing the river euphratis, (as with all biblical predictions there is a speicific reason for such a statement, and that being the timeline as a sign of when this could happen.) cos for the time in 3000 yrs the river euphrates in Iraq today is drying up.

“And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.” (Revelations 16)

the rise of the new powers of Russia and China, (described as the Bear and Dragon in revelations)

past events such as the fall of egypt, and that it would never again rule over any nation (Ezekiel),

Destruction of Sodom (which can be historically investigated as likely to have most likely been found). and that the area will never be inhabited again today,

a worldwide cultural and archeological account of a "great flood"

the rise of one world economy

the restoration of the New temple in Jerusalem (which is being prepared today).

These are just a tiny fraction. i mentioned them because most are happening in this day and age, so saying the bible isnt a good read i find weird. what book where you reading?

So are you lot into the Bible because of the lessons it can teach you about how to live a good life, or because it's some kind of future-predicting oracle?

Genuine question.

its that question that should be enough evidence of a much higher power at work. like i described, people many of whom were just ordinary common people, writing things like no one else had before, most of whom never ever met other writers. Daniel, never met ezekiel, nor did they meet john, but they both accuratly talk about the same events that happened thousands of yrs ahead of their time, . and the same book survived thousands of yrs of attempted destruction, and control for alternative purposes, to still remain the most printed book ever. people ask for evidence and the evidence is all their but they still ask for more...

Also, is posing semi-naked for gay magazines really the kind of thing a righteous Christian can get away with doing?

Surely the fires of Hell must beckon.

thankfully, i dont think there was any mention of being righteous,

and thats why even 'righteous' people have done things in the past they woudlnt do now.

nor was there any mention of people who believe the bible being perfect.

also ,the mention of the future predictions is just a sign of evidence that whoever inspired such predictions

has to have been some unknown force. its not a science like predicting when the next big earthquake is most likely to happen

even that..has to be done by experts in that field.

I think it's really sad how a book which has, let's be honest, a fair few good bits, can be taken by people like this and totally made into something it isn't

i think its also sad that people, most of whom have never really read, or understood a book and lets be honest, it does have alot of (what the hecks) in it

or have been able to completely refute evidence of its genuinity, can be dismissed by said people and totally taken out of context for what it is.
