Can someone recommend me some good foreign films.

Was in HMV on my lunch break looking at the world cinema section and thought that some of the films I've enjoyed the most have been foreign films. Was going to pick up Infernal Affairs but it was £15 and I reckon I can get it cheaper online.

Austrian- The Robber, watched this the other day, good film

Guess is depends what you are looking for really.

Horror? Go for Asian films 'Dark Water'

Dark Water is a 2002 Japanese drama-horror film directed by Hideo Nakata, the director of Ring and Ring 2. Dark Water is based on Floating Water, a short story by Koji Suzuki. Its Japanese name is Honogurai mizu no soko kara (仄暗い水の底から), which is also the name of the horror anthology by Koji Suzuki. There is also a manga adaptation that holds little similarity to the film, although the apartment building is identical.

Audition

A widower takes an offer to screen girls at a special audition, arranged for him by a friend to find him a new wife. The one he fancies is not who she appears to be after all.

Ichi The Killer

As sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer named Kakihara searches for his missing boss and comes across Ichi, a repressed and psychotic killer who may be able to inflict levels of pain that Kakihara has only dreamed of.

If you want any Korean or Thai films I'll ask my girlfriend and she can help with them.

Sweden and Denmark are putting out some good horrors, thrillers lately.

Das Boot (German film)

The claustrophobic world of a WWII German U-boat; boredom, filth, and sheer terror.

Waltz With Bashir

One night at a bar, an old friend tells director Ari about a recurring nightmare in which he is chased by 26 vicious dogs. Every night, the same number of beasts. The two men conclude that there's a connection to their Israeli Army mission in the first Lebanon War of the early eighties. Ari is surprised that he can't remember a thing anymore about that period of his life. Intrigued by this riddle, he decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, his memory begins to creep up in surreal images

Check films from Akira Kurosawa (Japanese director who did Seven Samurai and Ran which is an epic film) and Yasujiro Ozu (films like Tokyo Story received 100% on Rotten Tomatoes one of the very few, Early Summer and Floating Weeds, 3 of his most talked about films, guess with his you need to be in a certain mood to sit down and pay attention)

Amelie - I personally haven't seen but can only go on what everyone says about this film

Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love.

Bicycle Thieves - an Italian film from the 1940s (another one I watched last year at uni)

A man and his son search for a stolen bicycle vital for his job.

Pan's Labyrinth - Mexican film from Guillermo del Toro

In the fascist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.

Oldboy (one of my favourite films)

After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days.

Infernal Affairs is a great film!

La Haine (French film with Vincent Cassel)

Abdel, a local hoodlum, is hospitalized after a riot, where a policeman lost his gun. His friend Vinz finds it and claims he will kill a cop if Abdel dies.

10 (An Iranian film, think I watched this when we done a session on Iranian Cinema)

Ten sequences examine the emotional lives of women at significant junctures.

Persepolis

Poignant coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Two warriors in pursuit of a stolen sword and a notorious fugitive are led to an impetuous, physically-skilled, teenage nobleman's daughter, who is at a crossroads in her life.

Devils-Double-UK-Poster.jpg

the devils double out on blu ray rip

watched yesterday and its a great film - extremely graphic... but the acting from the two lead roles carry the film effectively

scarface-esque without the drugs but an accurate representation of the tyranny decadence can cause

would reccomend as an action/drama give it a solid 7/10

Watching this now, will post tomorrow with what I thought.

Decent film, good insight, some bits were too deep though, like the bit with the bride.

Dominic Cooper was sick as uday.

A Separation

A married couple are faced with a difficult decision, to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimers.

Searching for a link now, remember Kermode talking about it a few weeks back saying it was his movie of the week.
