It did implode from within, the policies and structures imposed around the world completely fell apart when the reality of britain being broke finally came home to roost, this is the reality america is currently running away from every year when congress increases the Govt's deficit limit... just frigging creating money out of thin air ..in the hope that a false system of security i.e. credit and low interest rates will keep head above water... this will work until a real crisis occurs..in Britains case that was WW2.. the reality was that it was broke before WW2.
