what do you guys know about Bevel?

Is it good?

Just get yourself a good quality safety razor, that's what a bezel basically is with a strong marketing campaign directed at black men.

For anyone suffering with bumps drop the gillette razors and all the disposables if you're using them, the way these multi blade razors tug at the hairs is a major cause of irritation for people with curly hair. Gillette and all them pulled a slick one and made disposable razors the norm despite the fact they're so much more expensive and cause a lot of people to have skin problems.

It's worth having a bottle of Tend Skin, the stuff is magic. Once you apply it to the skin you can see the hair rising to the surface within a matter of minutes. Apply it morning and night if you're having ongoing irritation.

I've just bought a Gillette Tech Safety Razor from ebay along with a brush, some blades and the rest of it to try out the traditional way of shaving. You have to learn the technique but it's well worth it for the improvement it can make on your skin, the Gillette Tech is a fairly mild razor for a beginner and recommended by a lot of people.

You can pick these up off ebay for £20-30 or alternatively edwin jagger and Murkr are two of the most popular current manufacturers.

Been using this for a month now and my skin has improved considerably. First shave I cut myself but nothing major, since then my technique has improved a lot and I'm at a point where I'm actually enjoying it.

I've tested out a few blades and found the Lord Platinums to be the best so far.

Last week I made a pre shave oil and used it for the first time which allowed me to get a much closer shave.

For a 100ml bottle:

2 parts virgin oil to one part castor oil

15 drops of tea tree oil

A few splashes of bay rum

I've found that the pre shave preparation is very important, you've got to soften the hair and skin.

Mine is:

lather up

leave it to sit in to soften the hair for 5 minutes, rinse off

apply pre shave oil and lather up over it

If you're getting irritation using disposables / multi blades I'd defo make the switch.

I like these traditional razors, it is an enjoyable shave. I need some advice on my routine though:

  1. While in shower, exfoliate face with pre shaving exfoliator, (natural ingriedients like lime etc.
  2. In shower, lather shaving cream on to soften skin and hair, leave 5 mins
  3. Wash off
  4. Out of shower, prep skin with Argan oil, (light layer as Argan oil is quite thick)
  5. Apply shaving lather again
  6. Shave, hot water always
  7. Apply honey, wash face with hot water
  8. Wash face with cold water

I'm wondering if my last two bits are counter productive, and I should rather do that before, only just done this today and I'm hoping I don't get any bumps but advice is needed from experience. My logic is that the honey will give the hair one final tug out and since it is antibacterial act against any bacteria trying to get into pores.

Great stuff in here guys, I'm going to get this stuff.

For a long time I thought us blacks couldn't properly wet shave without leaving our faces looking like tree bark or leaving filthy bumps. So I'd dry shave with an Andis and that can be inconvenient for a few reasons or I'd just wait till I got a trim and shave at the barbers.
