The first four-part season written by Ronan Bennett aired stripped across consecutive nights at the beginning of the month, averaging 1.9 million viewers and 9.4% share. The programme told the story of young people living on a drug-riddled London estate, with many local youths cast in key roles. Channel 4 has now commissioned a second four-part season for 2012 from Bennett, which will again be directed by Yann Demange. The programme is produced by Cowboy Films and Easter Partisan Films. C4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: "For me, Top Boy encapsulates everything that our drama is about: hugely original and passionate, with a brilliant roster of new talent.
